The National Association for Multi-Ethnicity in Communications' Mid-Atlantic Chapter has selected Cox Communications' Mae Douglas for its inaugural Diversity Champion Award.
Douglas, who is executive vice president and chief people officer for Cox, will receive the award at a reception NAMIC is hosting Nov. 2 in Washington, D.C.
"Mae is uniquely qualified to receive our very first Diversity Champion Award," said NAMIC Mid-Atlantic Chapter President Sherry Hubbard. "We've known her for years, and in that time, she has been such an inspiration for many in the telecommunications industry. It is a befitting tribute. We are setting a high standard for future honorees."
In her current role, Douglas is responsible for setting the human capital strategy in support of Cox Communications' long-term strategy and operating plans. She works with the company's executive team to drive talent and leadership development, organizational development, workforce planning and recruiting, employee relations, labor relations, diversity and inclusion, compensation, and human resources management systems.
Douglas has been recognized nationally for her advocacy of diversity efforts and leadership development across the cable industry. In 2008, Savoy Magazine listed her among their Top 100 Blacks in Corporate America. In 2011, she was presented the Vanguard Award for Distinguished Leadership by the National Cable and Telecommunications Association (NCTA).
Also this year, she was presented with the Friend of NAMIC Award for outstanding leadership and commitment to diversity by the national organization.
Douglas has also received recognition for her company's human resources practices from organizations such as Women in Cable and Telecommunications (WICT), Diversity Inc., Training Magazine and Working Mother Media.
"This award has been created to recognize those individuals working within the communications industry who have made significant contributions to the advancement of diversity," Hubbard said. "Like Mae, future honorees will exemplify the highest standards of excellence, achievement and diversity engagement and will have distinguished themselves in their specific field of expertise."
