Liberty Global closes out purchase of Aster
Following regulatory approval, Liberty Global announced this morning that it had wrapped up its purchase of Poland-based cable operator Aster.
Late last year, Liberty Global struck an $805 million deal with Mid Europa Partners to buy Aster. Aster is the fourth-largest cable operator in Poland. Liberty Global already owns UPC Polska, which is the country's largest MSO, but agreed to sell off some of its assets in order to win regulatory approval.
Aster and UPC Polska competed against each other in the cities of Warsaw and Krakow, but Liberty reduced its market share in those areas as part of the approval process.
Now that the deal has closed, Aster is part of Liberty Global's UPC Holding B.V. credit group.
Liberty Global, based in the Denver suburb of Englewood, Colo., serves 18 million customers across 14 countries, principally located in Europe, Chile and Australia.
