Video abroad: ThePlatform signs on to serve Scandinavian countries
Comcast division thePlatform has extended its video publishing mpx platform abroad via a new deal with Real Life Venture.
ThePlatform has a reseller agreement in place with Sweden-based Real Life Venture that pushes its video publishing, management and development offerings across the Nordic countries of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.
The first joint customer is ATG, which is the official international website of the Swedish Horse Racing Totalisator Board. ATG is using thePlatform’s mpx technology to publish and manage video content for Swedish Racing, including race replays, coverage, jockey profiles, and introductory videos on racing and betting.
The joint offering gives content providers across the various countries the ability to publish video to PCs, mobile devices and TVs using mpx and system integration services from Real Life. With local and specialized support from Real Life, mpx will serve the growing media market in Nordic countries by helping content providers extend video across multiple screens and destinations.
"Real Life has a great deal of experience in helping content providers architect and execute business models and technology solutions that extend their business," said Simon McGrath, general manager of Europe for thePlatform. "As an authorized reseller of mpx, we look forward to working with them as they offer local support and build custom solutions for customers across the Nordic countries."
Hemisphere Interactive was also named as an authorized reseller for thePlatform in Australia and New Zealand.
At The Cable Show in June, it was announced that thePlatform was providing the central video logistics for Comcast's Xcalibur service.
In April, thePlatform integrated Microsoft's digital rights management (DRM) system and Microsoft's adaptive streaming technologies into its mpx video management system.
