Nuance powers Cox's Voicemail-to-Text service

Cox Communications' wireless customers can convert their voicemail messages to text thanks to a platform from Nuance Communications.

Nuance said this morning that its Voicemail-to-Text service is enabling Cox Wireless' customers to read transcribed voice messages anywhere, anytime via an SMS text delivered to their mobile phones.

The service transcribes incoming voicemails into SMS text messages. Each transcribed message features one-click link access for responding to messages either via return phone call or SMS text message. The SMS text messages can also be forwarded and saved.

"Voicemail-to-Text is yet another way we are able to enhance our customers' mobile experience and simplify their communications," said Kelly Williams, vice president of Cox Wireless products and operations.

Cox, the nation's third-largest cable operator, has previously said that it's on track to have its “Unbelievably Fair” wireless service launched in 50 percent of its footprint by the end of this year.

"Nuance's Voicemail-to-Text service continues to experience significant traction in North America and around the world because consumers love the simplicity of receiving transcribed messages right to their phones," said John Pollard, vice president and general manager of Voice-to-Text services at Nuance. "And with innovative operators making voicemail-to-text a part of their offerings, even more consumers are able to change the way they stay connected."

In addition to Cox, Nuance said its Voicemail-to-Text platform customer list includes AT&T, Cisco, Vonage, Bell Canada, Rogers Wireless, Optus, Vodafone, Telefonica, Vodacom, SaskTel, Telus and Telstra.
