Knology picks FourthWall Media for Caller ID, EBIF platform
Knology has signed a deal with FourthWall Media that expands the latter's EBIF platform and Caller ID service across a wider section of its footprint.
Prior to the new agreement, Knology had deployed FourthWall's EBIF platform to part of its Montgomery, Ala., system. The new deal announced this morning expanded FourthWall's platform to include additional markets within Knology's Southeast and Midwestern footprint to support the deployment of Caller ID. The two companies will also collaborate on other applications but didn't say what they would be.
"FourthWall Media's EBIF platform enables Knology to efficiently deliver new and innovative applications to our customers," said Knology CTO John Treece. "Enhanced Caller ID is just one example of a number of products within the portfolio that can add immediate value to customers and enhance the interactive experience."
FourthWall Media said it was working with three of the top six U.S. cable operators, as well as smaller MSOs and independents, to provide the EBIF platform, which is now running in millions of homes.
FourthWall previously announced it was working with Charter Communications and Concurrent to develop an EBIF-based interactive TV platform. In the fall of last year, it announced the launch of an EBIF application, My Football Tracker, with Blue Ridge Communications.
EBIF is currently in front of 20 million households across the nation through Canoe Ventures, with Comcast supporting EBIF in roughly 19 million set-top boxes.
CableLabs' EBIF specification is a common language that allows advanced advertising and other applications to appear across cable's legacy set-top boxes, as well as newer boxes.
