KDG to expand network with Cisco routers
Kabel Deutschland (KDG) plans to expand and accelerate its cable network with the deployment of network routers from Cisco.
KDG has been a Cisco customer for some time. Late last year, the two were among the first to push DOCSIS transmission rates over 1 Gbps.
KDG will use Cisco's 9000 Series Aggregation Service Routers (ASR 9000) to aggregate and distribute video, data and voice services throughout its IP network. Cisco said Kabel is laying the foundation for future services such as 3-D TV channels and faster broadband speeds to meet ever-increasing consumer bandwidth requirements.
Kabel Deutschland operates cable networks in 13 German federal states and supplies its services to approximately 8.7 million households.
