With former CEO David Verklin departing Canoe Ventures last month, new CEO Kathy Timko has realigned the company's senior management team to help the company scale its current line of products and branch out into new areas.
"The opportunity for video distributors and programming networks to engage viewers and enhance advertiser value with deeper and more relevant television experiences remains as substantial as ever," said Timko. "I am confident that this alignment of Canoe's organization best positions the company for its next phase, which is focused on scale and growth. These changes will enable us to better serve networks, advertisers, agencies and distributors with compelling advanced solutions for TV."
Most notable among today's announcement was that Arthur Orduña has switched from being Canoe Ventures' chief technology officer to the newly created position of chief product officer. The new position leverages Orduña's technology expertise, which also included a long stint at Bright House Networks, while also aligning product strategy, product development and business development under his leadership.
Canoe Ventures said Orduña's new role is pivotal and will help Canoe better serve the dynamic marketplace and the company's cable operator investors – Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications, Charter Communications, Cablevision and Bright House Networks.
Reporting to Orduña will be product general managers with full P&L responsibility, starting with iTV and VOD dynamic ad insertion (DAI). Canoe Ventures said the team of general managers would expand as it enters new areas of business.
Having a general manager for each product line is an important next step for Canoe's plans to scale its platform across the nation, according to a spokesman.
Canoe Ventures launched its EBIF-based request for information campaign last year, and it's currently available in 20 million EBIF-enabled households. Canoe is also planning on releasing polling and trivia applications later this year, while its VOD dynamic ad insertion product will go into a trial this year before launching early next year.
Joel Hassell has taken over the CTO role after previously serving as senior vice president of engineering. Hassell's new job comes with expanded duties that include overseeing all technology and engineering teams, including advertising operations, in one office.
Vicki Lins continues as Canoe's chief marketing officer, overseeing marketing and communications while adding affiliate marketing duties in support of the programming networks Canoe has enabled for advanced services.
John Redpath continues his role as general counsel, overseeing all legal and regulatory matters, while Neil Schaffer continues in his role as chief financial officer, with expanded responsibilities for corporate administration and planning.
Jim Turner continues to lead sales as Canoe's senior vice president of sales and distribution and will also align network and agency relations within one team. Canoe said this role would focus on network distribution, advertiser and agency relations, and revenue generation.
All of the senior management team realignments are effective immediately.
