Jeffrey Hirsch has taken over the role of chief marketing officer for Time Warner Cable after the recent departure of Sam Howe.

Howe's last day with Time Warner Cable was Friday, and the company didn't say why he left. Howe was executive vice president and chief marketing officer for Time Warner Cable since 2005.

Jeffrey HirschHirsch also was named executive vice president upon replacing Howe as chief marketing officer. In his new role, Hirsch oversees all of Time Warner Cable's corporate marketing to its residential customers.

"Jeff is an exceptionally versatile and gifted executive with a unique understanding of our products and customers," said Time Warner Cable President and COO Rob Marcus. "His strong marketing background and proven track record in operating cable systems make him an excellent choice to lead our marketing initiatives in a new era of more intense competition and product differentiation."

Hirsch, 39, joined Time Warner Cable in 2009 and has held several senior executive posts with the company. Most recently, Hirsch oversaw the launch of Time Warner Cable’s iPad app.

Over the prior eight years, he was president of residential services for Time Warner Cable's New York City Region, president of the Los Angeles Metro Division and president of the Rochester, N.Y., Division. In each of these roles, he oversaw sales, marketing, customer care and technical operations.

Hirsch's prior professional experience includes roles at NYNEX Corp., where he was responsible for the development and implementation of product bundling programs, and at McCann-Erickson, where he developed advertising programs.

Howe was a visible presence in the cable industry. In addition to speaking at industry events and conferences, he was elected as chair of CTAM's board late last year.

Prior to his promotion in 2005, Howe served as Time Warner Cable's senior vice president of marketing for voice services since 2003.

Prior to joining Time Warner Cable, Howe started his own company, Howe Strategic, in 2001. His company provided marketing, planning and business development consultation to companies in the media industry, including Time Warner Cable during the initial stages of marketing its digital phone service.

Earlier in his career, Howe also worked for Turner Broadcasting and Cox Communications.
