In the media: Competition heats up for TWC's Oceanic system
The stage is set for Time Warner Cable's Oceanic system to do battle with Hawaiian Telecom now that the latter has been granted a 15-year cable franchise license in Oahu.
According to a story in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, Hawaiian Telecom was issued the franchise license on Friday. The company will now be able to bundle Internet, landline phone and video services together for some customers on the island.
Hawaiian Telecom, the state's biggest phone company, didn't say when its video service would become available.
Time Warner Cable Oceanic is one of the company's more progressive systems. Late last year, Oceanic broke ground on a solar canopy on Oahu.
In 2008, Time Warner Cable Oceanic partnered with ActiveVideo for a service that allowed customers the ability to view Internet-based and traditional content on their TVs.
