China Telecom deploys Cisco routers
China Telecom is preparing to offer new IPTV services based on the deployment of new routers from Cisco Systems.
China Telecom, the largest fixed-line and third-largest mobile telecommunications service provider in China, is using Cisco's Aggregation Services Router 9000 Series (ASR 9000) to introduce new converged services, including IPTV and VPN.
Initially, the ASR 9000s will be deployed in China's developed coastal regions, including Shanghai, Fujian and Guangdong, to provide the new converged services for users.
The Cisco ASR 9000 is designed for video delivery, including integrated content caching and in-line video performance monitoring. The platform also uses Cisco's IOS XR modular software operating system, which Cisco said is simplifying China Telecom's network operations.
