Cable One is now offering its customers a new high-definition receiver that it said makes HD programming more affordable and accessible.
Cable One customers who have an HD television and a Cable One HD receiver or a CableCard can get HD programming at no additional cost other than the monthly rental fee.
"Our customers told us they wanted additional HD programming at an affordable price," said Jerry McKenna, senior vice president and chief sales and marketing officer at Cable One. "We're always seeking ways to expand our capabilities to make our customers happy. When the new HD receiver became available, we embraced the opportunity to offer it to our customers."
In 2008, Cable One filed a waiver request with the Federal Communications Commission in order to deploy integrated, HD-capable, all-digital devices (ADDs) in its Dyersberg, Tenn., system.
Cable One, which is the 10th-largest cable operator in the nation, provides up to 20,000 hours of free HD programming on up to 43 channels, including ESPN, ESPN2, Discovery Channel, Cartoon Network, TNT, USA, CNN, Fox News, A&E, Animal Planet, Syfy and The History Channel.
In order to receive a channel in HD, customers must subscribe to the standard-definition channel, and Cable One must offer the channel in HD.
"HD programming is important to our customers. They can be confident knowing that we're dedicated to bringing them the most HD programming available," said McKenna. "In fact, Cable One plans to add several additional HD channels to our lineup throughout 2011."
HD receiver rental is $5 per month for current Cable One digital and standard-definition customers. Cable One also offers an HD/DVR combination receiver for $10 per month for customers who want the capability to record their favorite shows. HD and HD/DVR receivers are available to new and current Cable One customers.
New HD pricing is only in effect in systems that have DOCSIS 3.0 and the new 2011 rate card.
Last week, Cable One rolled out two new data tiers to its subscribers.
