Cox Communications' wireless service is now live across the state of Rhode Island, as well as in communities that it serves in Connecticut and Cleveland.

Cox's goal is to have its wireless service, which it has branded "Unbelievably Fair," in half of its footprint by year's end.

To date, Cox Wireless has been launched in Hampton Roads, Va., Omaha, Neb., Orange County, Calif., and Oklahoma City and Tulsa, Okla.

Until it gets its own wireless network completed, Cox is using Sprint's 3G CDMA EVDO Rev A network to provision its wireless offering.

Cox's Unbelievably Fair service includes "MoneyBack Minutes" that give customers credit for unused minutes on that month's billing cycle. Customers could receive up to $20 a month with MoneyBack Minutes.

As part of its wireless strategy, Cox has opened six Cox Solution retail stores and three additional retail locations in its New England/Cleveland system. Along with its wireless service, Cox is offering bundled options with its traditional triple-play services, and its customers can see how the products and services are integrated through demos at the store, as well as check out Cox's lineup of devices.

"Our wireless offering has received a very enthusiastic response from customers of other providers," said Kelly Williams, Cox's vice president of wireless products and operations. "The extra value we provide with Bundle Benefits and MoneyBack Minutes is financially rewarding to customers; it's a more fair approach to wireless, and it's very convenient too. We are very excited to bring our fair approach to wireless to consumers in New England/Cleveland."

Last month, Cox named Williams the head of its wireless division.

A spokesman for Cox said the company has added more Android and Brew devices since its initial launch late last year.
