Programmers can do TV Everywhere, too. Epix has introduced an app that enables authenticated subscribers to download movies and other video, on-demand, to a range of mobile devices and retail boxes.

The apps are free and usable by anyone with the aforementioned devices and a subscription to Epix through a multichannel video programming distributor (MVPD).

The company said it is working with several MVPDs to publicize the launch of the app; the only one mentioned by name was Verizon FiOS. Other MVPDs that work with Epix include Cox, Charter, Mediacom and Dish Network. Netflix is also a partner.

Epix has versions of the app for Android-based tablets; phones from Motorola, HTC and LG; Samsung TVs; Blu-ray players; Google TV; Roku boxes; and the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet.

The company said its on-demand library includes 3,000 movies, plus original programming and extras. Participating studios include Paramount Pictures, Lionsgate and MGM.

Epix President and CEO Mark Greenberg said, "Movies have been a key driver of every new entertainment platform, and we are excited to tap the power of movies to engage online viewers and attract new subscribers for our affiliated distributors.

"We look forward to the continued work with our distribution partners in the development of more great apps for all emerging devices and platforms to provide maximum convenience and value for current and potential subscribers alike."
