Time Warner Cable's DOCSIS 3.0-based tier, which features up to 50 Mbps on the downstream and 5 Mbps up, is slated for release this spring in Rochester, N.Y.
Time Warner Cable didn't provide a lot of details on the Rochester rollout of its Wideband Internet tier, but it's priced at $99.95 per month in Charlotte, N.C., where it was officially launched in November.
Time Warner Cable didn't say if there would be a business-class offering of its DOCSIS 3.0 tier in Rochester.
Time Warner Cable did note in its DOCSIS 3.0 press release that customers would be able to connect up to five wireless devices simultaneously when it becomes available in Rochester.
"Wideband Internet gives all home network devices – desktops, laptops, gaming consoles and smartphones – our fastest connection," said Terence Rafferty, regional vice president of operations for the Northeast communities of Time Warner Cable.
Time Warner Cable's Signature Home multi-room DVR offering, which launched last month after a trial this past summer in Charlotte, is able to wirelessly connect up to 14 devices.
Time Warner Cable mentions on its website that "Powertask" enabled multiple services on Signature Home.
According to information on a website, Time Warner Cable was issued a trademark for Powertask in October of last year. Powertask is "modular computer peripherals for mobile and desktop computers; communication cards, namely modem cards, connectivity cards, networking cards," according to the trademark document.
Now that DOCSIS 3.0 is teed up for a launch, Rochester seems like a good candidate for a Signature Home rollout. In addition to DOCSIS 3.0, Signature Home features VoiceZone and uses the cable operator's OCAP Digital Navigator (ODN) guide, both of which are up and running in Rochester.
VoiceZone is a free, Web-based portal that allows its subscribers to customize and monitor their digital phone service from any Web-connected computer.
With VoiceZone, customers can change call settings, including Caller ID, access voicemail, block unwanted calls and set distinctive rings to identify incoming calls. VoiceZone can be accessed through the company's "MyServices" online platform under the MyHomePhone tab.
Time Warner Cable's premium Signature Home service costs $199.99 per month in New York City – where Time Warner Cable competes with Verizon – and $179.99 in Charlotte.
