Charter delivers faster data speeds for residential, biz subs
Charter Communications is once again offering its residential and business subscribers faster data speeds at no additional cost.
Today's speed increase announcement followed up on a similar announcement in March of last year on faster data speeds.
Starting today, the speed for Charter's Internet Express tier increased from up to 8 Mbps to up to 12 Mbps, while Charter Internet Plus speed rose from up to 16 Mbps to up to 18 Mbps.
Charter Business customers also experienced a free bump up in their Internet speeds: Pro40Mbps increased to Pro50Mbps, and Pro75Mbps service increased to Pro100Mbps.
"There has been an explosion in the number of devices, applications and cloud-based services that rely on robust Internet connectivity," said Carl Leuschner, vice president of Internet and phone product management for Charter. "The Internet is a destination we go to for work, play, to interact and be entertained. These experiences increasingly require faster Internet access, and by providing ultra-fast speeds in our markets, Charter enables our customers to experience true high-speed Internet.
"Our flagship Internet Express speed is more than double what it was a year ago, reflecting our ongoing commitment to leverage our superior network to drive value for our customers."
Upload speeds stayed at up to 1 Mbps for Express and up to 2 Mbps for Plus. Max and Ultra60 services are also available with download speeds up to 25 Mbps and 60 Mbps.
Charter Business customers have access to download speeds up to 100 Mbps and upload speeds up to 5 Mbps. Charter also provides commercial customers fiber-optic Internet services of up to 1 Gbps.
Last week, Netflix said that Charter Communications topped its list of providers that provided the fastest bit rates for the company's streamed videos.
