Leveraging broadband stimulus money, Cameron Communications will use Calix's C7 Multiservice Access Platform (MSAP) to bring broadband services to three "unserved" and "underserved" communities in southwest Louisiana.

Cameron Communications received $33.4 million in overall funds, including a $16.7 million grant and a $16.7 million loan for plant engineering, materials, labor, and other costs, including access equipment.

Cameron's GPON network will serve Moss Bluff, Oakdale and Vinton.

George Mack, president of Cameron Communications, said "The bandwidth and fiber access infrastructure created by these projects will allow the residents and businesses in these areas to keep pace with the increasing demands of a global economy, as well as provide infrastructure upgrades to local schools, libraries, hospitals, public safety and governmental agencies. These projects are critical to the future of these communities, and our long term relationship with Calix has shown us that we can count on them to deliver when the stakes are high."

Calix's purchase order includes the C7 MSAP along with optical network terminals (ONTs). Calix said it is now involved in 23 separate Broadband Stimulus programs.
