Videotron counts customer blessings
Videotron recently provided an update on the subscriber numbers for its quad-play services, which includes the take rate on its new HSPA+ wireless offering.
Videotron launched its own wireless and mobile broadband service in September. As of Dec. 3, Videotron had signed on 41,800 new customers, bringing the total number of activated handsets on its 3G+ network to 72,200, including 50,300 added in the first two months of the quarter.
Residents of the greater Montreal, Quebec City, Mauricie, Sherbrooke, Bois-Francs, Monteregie and Laurentians regions now have access to mobile services from Videotron.
Since its September debut, Videotron has also added more devices for its wireless service, including the LG dLite, LG Wink and BlackBerry Curve.
Videotron also recently bowed a new DOCSIS 3.0 tier, Ultimate Speed Internet120, that features speeds of up to 120 Mbps on the downstream. The 120 Mbps tier is the fastest downstream speed currently being offered by a North American cable operator, but last month Verizon took over the top spot with the launch of its 150 Mbps service.
As of Dec. 3, Videotron counted 1.25 million data subscribers, which was an increase of 12,700 since the end of the previous quarter.
While large cable operators such as Comcast and Time Warner Cable have been losing basic video subscribers, Videotron said it increased its numbers by 6,900 since Sept. 30 for a total of 1.81 million. Videotron also saw a spike in its digital video customers, with an increase of nearly 22,500 subscribers to bring its total to 1.2 million as of Dec. 3.
Videotron's cable telephone service had 1.11 million residential and business customers, 11,000 more than at the end of the third quarter of 2010.
