LURAY, Va. (AP) – Shenandoah Telecommunications Co. has been hired to build a fiber-optic network for broadband services in Page County, Va.

The Page County Broadband Authority announced the contract with the Edinburg-based company on Thursday.

The authority says the 39-mile network will stretch from Rileyville to Shenandoah. It's scheduled to be completed in 2012.

Capacity will be leased to institutions and service providers.

Authority Chairman Bernie Miller says the contract is the first step in providing better broadband services in the county.
