In the media: Verizon, DirecTV test new bundle
Verizon Wireless and DirecTV are reported to be collaborating on an in-home broadband and entertainment service.
The test, being conducted near Erie, Pa., combines TV services from DirecTV and LTE wireless broadband from Verizon.
Such a combination would allow Verizon to reach well outside its traditional operating territory with a bundle that combines video, broadband and wireless phone.
The test homes are equipped with a satellite dish to receive DirecTV video service, while a rooftop radio antenna provides a connection between Verizon's LTE network and an in-home router, according to Investors.com.
DirecTV disclosed the trial at an analyst meeting in New York City last week, where it cautioned that nationwide availability of Verizon's LTE is still a "couple of years away."
