Comcast has reached a total of 18 billion views for its video-on-demand platform since the service was launched in 2003, and it also released more than 200 “day-and-date” movies – movies available on-demand the same day as DVDs – this year.
"Our customers continue to use on-demand and embrace day-and-date movies in record numbers,” said Marcien Jenckes, senior vice president and general manager for Comcast. "Our customers are also watching more kids programming, TV series and music on-demand than ever before, and in 2011, we will continue to bring them more entertainment choices available anytime, both on-demand and online.”
Comcast has deals in place with major studios to bring same-day-as-DVD movies to its customers, including: Warner Bros/New Line, Fox, Universal, Summit, Sony, MGM, Paramount, Disney/Buena Vista, DreamWorks and LionsGate. The nation’s largest cable operator said movies available the same day as DVD release continue to rise in popularity and are consistently among the top-performing content for VOD.
Comcast is working on offering movies and other content on its Xfinity TV app for the iPad, iPhone and Android-powered devices.
