Time Warner Cable serves up D3 in Charlotte, VoiceZone in East Region
On the eve of tomorrow's third-quarter earnings report, Time Warner Cable has launched DOCSIS 3.0 in Charlotte, N.C., and "VoiceZone" in its East Region.
Time Warner Cable has lagged behind some of its cable brethren in regard to deploying the faster DOCSIS 3.0-based downstream speeds, but Charlotte has long been rumored to be the next system to offer wideband to its subscribers.
For $99.95 per month, Time Warner Cable's Wideband Internet features downstream speeds of up to 50 Mbps and upstream speeds of up to 5 Mbps.
Time Warner Cable is also offering Road Runner Extreme in Charlotte with downstream speeds of up to 30 Mbps and upstream speeds of up to 5 Mbps for $64.95 as part of a bundled offering.
"Wideband allows customers to download files, stream a TV show and upload photos, all without missing a beat," said Mike Smith, area vice president for Time Warner Cable's Charlotte operation. "As customers expand their use of the Internet, our services are evolving to meet their needs."
The nation's second-largest cable operator, and third-largest ISP, also increased the speeds of its Turbo and Standard data tiers at no additional cost to its Charlotte-area subscribers. Turbo Internet speeds went from 10 Mbps down, 512 kbps up, to 15 Mbps/1 Mbps, while Standard increased from 7 Mbps/384 Kbps to 10 Mbps/1 Mbps.
"We substantially increased our download speeds and essentially doubled upload speeds for all of our Turbo and Standard Internet service customers," Smith said. "This service upgrade demonstrates our commitment to deliver enhanced value to our customers. We are satisfying their thirst for more throttle."
In Time Warner Cable's East Region, which includes New York City, the company has launched VoiceZone, which is a free, Web-based portal that allows its subscribers to customize and monitor their digital phone service from any Web-connected computer.
With VoiceZone, customers can change call settings including caller ID, access voicemail, block unwanted calls and set distinctive rings to identify incoming calls. VoiceZone can be accessed through the company's "MyServices" online platform under the MyHomePhone tab.
"Time Warner Cable is focused on keeping customers easily connected to what's important to them. The introduction of VoiceZone to MyServices, much like our recently added Remote DVR Manager, provides customers with the convenience of managing Time Warner Cable products from outside the home," said Jeffrey A. Hirsch, chief marketing officer for Time Warner Cable's East Region.
