Cisco, KDG test 1 Gbps DOCSIS
Tue, 11/16/2010 - 7:35am
Cisco and long-time customer Kabel Deutschland (KDG) said that they've achieved 1.17 Gbps download rates using EuroDOCSIS 3.0 technology.
"It will take a few more years until Internet applications and content exists that actually allow our customers to fully utilize as much as 1 Gbps. But if you recall that the average demand for bandwidth of a household in the KDG network has increased by 500 percent from 2006 to 2010 alone, then the question is not if, but when this time will come," said KDG CTO Lorenz Glatz.
The achievement was no doubt a test of combining more DOCSIS channels than have been bonded in the past, but KDG provided few details beyond saying that the CMTS used was a standard model.
