MSOs have started leveraging the iPad as a remote control, but now Cablevision and Comcast are preparing to make delivery of video directly to the tablets part of their services.

Comcast plans to include iPads as screens later this year, and Cablevision plans to launch a service that can turn the iPad into a mobile TV screen at home by early spring.

"You'll have our full cable television service on it in the home," said Cablevision COO Tom Rutledge at the SNL Kagan conference in New York, as quoted by MediaPost. He said the launch could come toward the end of the first quarter next year, or early in the second.

Cablevision is trying to secure the rights to allow out-of-home access, possibly by using a VOD model. The parallel would be with Netflix's service.

The same article reported that Comcast also said it will debut a service later this year allowing customers to watch some content on the iPad.
