Icahn expects 95% of XO debt

The Daily Deal…08/29/2002 From LexisNexis Carl Icahn said Wednesday he expects to have 95 percent of XO Communications Inc.'s $1 billion in bank debt after he closes on his tender offer Thursday, Aug. 29. This would give Icahn control of the Reston, Va. -based broadband provider if it fails to close on a proposed Forstmann Little & Co.

SeaChange International Inc. let go with the industry's worst kept video-on-demand secret Tuesday afternoon, revealing with the release of its second quarter numbers that the company had won a contract to be Insight Communications' new VOD server and system vendor in 10 markets. Prior to going with SeaChange, Insight's primary vendor was Diva Systems Corp.

Nortel tumbles on cuts, revised outlook

As customer spending for telecom gear continues to wane, Nortel Networks is weighing its options. The latest: the company plans to cut 7,000 more jobs and has revised its third-quarter sales forecast. The company's stock fell nearly 18 percent at one point in morning trading action. The telecom equipment giant has eliminated roughly 50,000 jobs since last year.

Kasenna takes VOD delivery to another level

With the help of Broadcom Corp., Kasenna Inc. is pushing the performance envelope for video-on-demand delivery on Gigabit Ethernet interfaces. The streaming media provider says it has achieved throughput of 910 Mbps output on a Gigabit Ethernet interface from its MediaBase XMP video delivery platform.

RCN unloads New Jersey systems

RCN Corp. takes an expected step to shed some non-core cable systems in New Jersey to focus on its bundling service strategy. The $245 million cash deal will give control of the Central New Jersey systems and its 80,000 subscribers to private equity firm Spectrum Equity Investors and former cable executive Steve Simmons.

Home networking service, support package debuts for operators

Concurrent Computer Corp. generated more than $17 million in revenue from video-on-demand deployments in the fourth quarter, tipping its VOD-enabled digital subscriber base to more than 3 million. The company's MediaHawk Broadband VOD system has been deployed in 39 North American markets by Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications Inc.

Acrowave taps Conexant
