Time Warner Cable is adding 18 miles of fiber optics and coaxial cable in Maine in order to reach 400 homes and businesses with its triple-play services.

The homes and businesses are near Long Lake, which is located just outside of Madawaska, Maine.

The project will add fiber and coax along Lake Shore Drive, Green Point Road, Beaulieu Road and Pelletier Island, which is located in Saint Agatha. Construction work is slated to be finished in early December. Time Warner Cable already provides service in the town of Madawaska.

"We're pleased to make this significant investment in Aroostook County on behalf of our 1,000 employees in Maine," said Melinda Poore, vice president of government relations for Time Warner Cable of New England. "Expanded broadband access is critical in a rural state like ours, and Time Warner Cable is committed to providing broadband access throughout Maine."

Since 2006, Time Warner Cable said it has invested more than $220 million in new technology and infrastructure in Maine. Time Warner Cable, the nation's second-largest cable operator, has been a Maine cable provider for more than 30 years and serves 272 communities in Maine, including 29 in Aroostook County.

"Access to broadband is critical to the county's future as statistics show there is a direct correlation between IT infrastructure investment and job creation. The installation of new fiber and coaxial cable is important to the future development of the St. Agatha area and supports a number of the Mobilize Northern Maine IT Industry Cluster goals," said Walt Elish, president and CEO of The Aroostook Partnership for Progress. "We've set goals of attracting $100 million in new IT infrastructure investment and reaching at least 37,500 high-speed subscription lines by 2015. This project goes a long way in assisting us to meet both of those important goals."
