Technicolor TabletTechnicolor has released the second generation of its Media Touch tablet, which is designed to provide another video interface into homes, as well as tie in various elements of a home network.

Media Touch is an Android-based tablet that features a 7-inch screen. It can be used as a remote control for devices such as set-top boxes, and with its open interfaces, it can be used to sync with other multimedia devices on a home network.

At last week's SCTE Cable-Tec Expo, Technicolor's Benoit Joly, vice president of home networking and applications, said the tablet could be customized by a service operator, either through branding on the tablet itself or through service operator's own user interface.

By combining the tablet with a gateway and other devices from Technicolor, service providers could enable a turnkey home networking offering to their subscribers, Joly said.

On Tuesday, Technicolor's Media Touch won an award at the Broadband InfoVision Awards. The tablet won in the category of "Broadband Home: Appliances, Devices, Home Networks and Services."
