Last week's SCTE Cable-Tec Expo in New Orleans saw a slight drop in the number of attendees compared with the previous year's show in Denver.
While the show last year was plagued by snowstorms that made it difficult for some to attend, there were roughly 9,000 attendees. (The number of attendees in Denver was down 18 percent from the previous year.) The SCTE said on Friday that there were more than 8,200 attendees at the three-day event last week in New Orleans.
On the plus side, the New Orleans show featured nearly 400 exhibitors, including more than 60 new technology vendors, more international attendees and more than 100 new SCTE members.
"Even in an extremely difficult business environment, Cable-Tec Expo 2010 showed the industry's collective commitment to bringing problem-solvers together to solve problems and meet consumers' needs," said Mark Dzuban, president and CEO of the SCTE. "We believe that the forward thinking that was evident in our panels, in our workshops and on the show floor in New Orleans provided significant value by accelerating the industry's ability to deliver new services."
Next year's Cable-Tec Expo will be held later than usual on Nov. 16-18 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta. Also next year, the CTAM Summit won't be held in the same location as Expo. The CTAM Summit is scheduled to take place Oct. 5-7 in New York City's Marriott Marquis.
