Portugal's Zon Multimedia has consolidated its IT and network management with the aid of IBM. The converged networks support Zon's HDTV, high-speed Internet access, digital voice, security, music and gaming services.
The agreement is worth about $1.5 million. IBM said it beat out several competitors for the contract, including incumbent HP. IBM said it will be replacing Zon's HP Network Node Manager with its IBM Tivoli Netcool.
Zon was looking for an intelligent network management and IT monitoring solution that could aggregate the various components of its infrastructure into a centralized view, IBM said.
The real-time, centralized monitoring of complex networks and IT domains delivers scalability that exceeds millions of events per day, IBM added.
Paulo Ribeiro, board member of Zon TVCabo, said, "IBM software enables our network operations and IT staff to hone in on the most critical problems, and even automate the isolation and resolution of those problems before impacting customers."
