Hits, a business unit of the Comcast Media Center, has rolled out a new sales promotion that includes reduced rates for its services that were designed to help cable operators get a head start on their 2011 business strategies.

The promotion allows cable operators to add Hits Quantum SD and HD digital services to their lineups at reduced rates through the end of the year. With the savings in hand, CMC said operators could apply the funds to other critical areas of their businesses.

"As the number of HD households grows, adding HD services is crucial to a cable operator's competitive position. Hits Quantum digital SD and HD services provide a cost-effective solution for reclaiming bandwidth and adding HD quickly," said Gary Traver, senior vice president and COO of the CMC. "These incentives are designed to help cable operators get a head start on their 2011 plans and increase their net revenue potential."

Hits Quantum HD and SD offerings use advanced compression technology for MPEG-2, which helps to optimize the bandwidth efficiency of widely deployed cable system architectures.

The Hits Quantum SD lineup includes many of the popular cable programming networks featured on "expanded basic" analog tiers. This means that cable operators can use Hits Quantum SD to reclaim bandwidth for launching HD and other advanced video and broadband services by replacing the analog channels with their digital versions.
