Cisco stretched its lead by almost 5 percent in the service provider edge router service segment, while Juniper Networks overtook Alcatel-Lucent for second place overall.

According to a recent study by Dell’Oro Group, Cisco’s share of the edge router segment for service providers now stands at 47 percent. Alcatel-Lucent had held on to second place for the past three quarters before Juniper Networks took over that spot in the second quarter of this year.

Tellabs jumped two spots from sixth to fourth as sales of its edge routers surged to record levels.

"As the service provider edge router market recovers this year, a number of variables are affecting the vendors' performance," said Shin Umeda, vice president at Dell'Oro Group. "For example, Cisco is benefitting from its large, global customer base and new product cycles, while Tellabs, a much smaller company, is seeing strong demand for its products in wireless networks.”
