• Comcast boosts channel offerings in central Calif.

Comcast has added 59 new HD channels and 14 international networks to the Central Valley city of Manteca, Calif.
The additional channels were the result of Comcast’s Project Cavalry all-digital conversion, and they’re launching under the Xfinity brand name, according to a story in the Manteca Bulletin.
Through the use of digital terminal adapters (DTAs), Comcast has aggressively pursued Project Cavalry since 2008. As of April, the all-digital project has been completed in Portland, Ore., Seattle and San Francisco, and Comcast’s goal is to have it in 80 percent of its systems by year’s end.
• Time Warner Cable adds 10 HD channels in Marion, Ohio

Subscribers in Time Warner Cable’s Marion, Ohio, system have 10 new HD channels to view.
The 10 new channels added to the former Adelphia system in Marion are: Discovery HD, Comedy Central HD, TLC HD, History Channel HD, Food Network HD, Travel Channel HD, FX HD, Hallmark Movies HD, CNN HD and MTV HD.
“Our customers crave more HD,” said Mark Dunford, regional vice president of operations for Time Warner Cable’ Mid-Ohio Division. “The only thing better than ‘more’ HD is more ‘no-fee’ HD, and we’re excited to bring even more value to our HD customers with these latest additions.”
The HD additions bring the total number of HD channel offerings in Marion to 38. By the end of summer, Time Warner Cable said it expects to offer customers in many areas of the Mid-Ohio Division a total of 100 HD channels.
• Motorola can migrate WiMAX to WiMAX 2 or LTE

Motorola has created a technological migration path that gives today’s WiMAX network operators the ability to choose upgrade paths, either to new versions of WiMAX or a migration to LTE.
Motorola’s WiMAX Evolution solution allows operators to upgrade existing WiMAX 802.16e / 802.16e enhanced networks to 802.16m or TD-LTE, or to add LTE to their existing WiMAX networks.
The system is based on a single RAN (radio access network) that supports existing technology and provides an upgrade path by reusing most of a base station for various migration scenarios and reusing up to 100 percent of other major network components such as IP/MPLS core, backhaul and device management.
Motorola WiMAX access points are upgradable to 802.16m (WiMAX 2), TD-LTE, FDD LTE or LTE-Advanced, meeting the needs of and providing significant cost benefits to all operators.
