Harmonic offers compact optical node for cable systems

Harmonic introduced a compact optical node the company said was designed for Fiber Deep and distribution applications, appropriate for broadcast services, as well as additional narrowcast services such as VOD, data or telephony.

The company’s new PWRBlazer 3142E is a 4x4 scalable optical node with four-way segmentation options in both forward and return paths.

Harmonic said the node is easy to configure and includes an ergonomic, rugged, die-cast aluminum housing. The housing supports an easy-to-use fiber management system, dual AC input buses (for redundant network powering), optional backup power pack, RF output module and motherboard.

The RF module supports four high-level outputs, power-passing capability and four-way segmentation in both the forward and return paths. A return mute switch in each RF return path enables operators to individually isolate the source of ingress. An optional status-monitoring transponder allows remote monitoring to ensure network reliability.

“The new PWRBlazer 3142E provides operators with greater density and flexibility to facilitate a wide variety of configurations. Cable MSOs can more easily segment their networks without the significant capital expenditures associated with new plant constructions,” said Harmonic’s Harry Chou, senior director of HFC.
