Blockbuster has nominated Kathleen Dore for its board of directors; the election is scheduled for June 24 during the company’s annual stockholders' meeting.

Dore is a cable industry veteran, most recently serving as president of Canwest Media. Prior to joining Canwest, Dore served in various roles at Rainbow Media, including president of entertainment services, and worked for cable networks AMC (American Movie Classics), IFC (Independent Film Channel) and WE (Women's Entertainment). Dore also was responsible for the growth and expansion of Bravo, growing its subscriber base from 500,000 to 68 million during her tenure as president from 1996 until 2002.

With its rental business dying, Blockbuster is trying to turn itself into “the leading multichannel provider of media entertainment,” in the words of Blockbuster Chairman and CEO James Keyes.

To that end, the company last fall established ties with Mediacom and Suddenlink with the expectation that it might end up supplying the two MSOs with VOD content.
