Google is working on Android-based TV software that could lead to more Internet video becoming available on set-top boxes, TVs and other devices.

The Wall Street Journal reported today that Google could show the new software at its Google I/O conference May 19-20 in San Francisco. The software is reportedly attracting the interest of various companies, including Intel, Sony and Logitech International, that could offer products using Google’s software.

By debuting the software at the conference, Google could be trying to spur the development of TV applications similar to what Apple has done with its App Store.

Earlier this week, Bloomberg reported that Sony was planning on announcing devices that use Google’s software and Intel’s chips at next month’s conference.

Google is also working on its test of a television search service with Dish Network, according to The Wall Street Journal. The limited test started last year and uses Google’s technology in order to let viewers access and search for Internet programming, as well as access and search Dish’s linear programming.
