Cox adding Rovi VOD guide
Cox Communications has deployed Rovi's video-on-demand guide application, ShowRunner, in all of its Motorola systems.
The conversion process has a way to go, however. Cox is planning to supplement its Passport Guide in its systems based on the Cisco platform through the rest of the year.
Rovi said it plans to launch several new applications for ShowRunner in 2010, including integrated VOD search, the ability to start and stop an on-demand program in one room and restart it in another, and remote selection of VOD content for viewing at a later time.
Cox stepped up marketing and promotion of its on-demand service in its Motorola-based systems following the conversion of those systems; the result has been an increase in VOD usage of approximately 20 percent, Rovi said.
"Rovi's ShowRunner has helped us improve the presentation of on-demand to our subscribers," said Steve Necessary, vice president of video product development at Cox. "As a result, we're pleased to see consumers are accessing and viewing more on-demand content and discovering programming they otherwise wouldn't know was available to them as part of their Cox Advanced TV subscription."
