Bright House Networks’ second launch of a DOCSIS 3.0-enabled service is slated for next month in central Florida.

Bright House Networks’ DOCSIS 3.0 service, which is called Road Runner Lightning, features 40 Mbps into customers’ homes and up to 4 Mbps on the upstream, along with an 802.11n-based home gateway.

Bright House said Road Runner Lightning includes a new cable modem designed to take advantage of greater bandwidth, but it’s not releasing the names of its DOCSIS 3.0 vendors.

The wideband service is roughly $30 more per month than the company’s Road Runner Standard service. The service will also be available to many current Road Runner high-speed Internet subscribers for as low as $15 more per month.

Bright House, which competes with Verizon, didn’t say what specific areas of central Florida the service will be available in, but said it will become available in different Bright House Networks service areas at different times over the summer.

“Road Runner Lightning is a great addition to our current high-speed Internet service and in so many ways enhances the overall customer experience through next-generation wideband technology, which is ideal for customers’ convenience and access to a variety of online content,” said Chris Fenger, president of Bright House Networks’ Central Florida Division. “Road Runner Lightning, which offers the highest Internet speeds in central Florida, is yet another way Bright House Networks is providing the newest technology to enhance our customers’ overall multimedia experience.”

Bright House Networks’ first DOCSIS 3.0 deployment was in the Tampa Bay area late last year.
