Add Houston to Comcast’s growing list of DOCSIS 3.0 deployments.
According to the Houston Business Journal and Houston Chronicle, Comcast has launched its Extreme 50 tier, with speeds of 50 Mbps on the downstream and 10 Mbps on the upstream, for $99.95 per month.
Neither story made mention of Comcast’s Ultra tier, which has been deployed in other markets with a downstream speed of 22 Mbps down and 5 Mbps up.
Currently, the service is available to residential subscribers in The Woodlands, Cypress, Champions, Humble and adjacent Houston-area communities. A Comcast spokesman said it would be available to the rest of the area by year’s end.
As it has done in other markets, Comcast also increased the speeds for its existing Performance tier residential customers, who will now benefit from doubled downstream of up to 12 Mbps and 2 Mbps, respectively.
