Today, BigBand Networks announced the availability of its Broadcast Video Services Software 3.0, which is an upgrade to its installed base of Broadband Multimedia Routers (BMR).

BigBand said the software upgrade would allow customers to deploy up to 150 percent more HD advertising and process up to 140 percent more individual streams.

BigBand said the Broadcast Video Services Software 3.0 enhancements also reduced power costs and freed up rack space that operators can use to deploy additional services. For existing BMR deployments, customers benefit from increased splicing, clamping and rate shaping, with no need for additional hardware.

The new software upgrade also further reduced configuration complexity for ease of deployment and management, according to BigBand.

The BMR has more than 60 million subscribers worldwide and delivers more than 700 million advertising transactions a year.

“The BMR has the proven performance to accommodate the explosion in HD content libraries, the surge in projected ad spends, the migration to addressable advertising, interactive services and the anticipated rollout of 3-D TV,” said Paul Crann, vice president of product management at BigBand Networks. “This platform enables our customers to quickly ramp additional advertising revenues seamlessly and cost-effectively.”
