Nokia Siemens to upgrade Insight’s network

In preparation for introducing a spate of new services, Insight Communications will improve the metro portions of its network with equipment from Nokia Siemens Networks.

The vendor said Insight will deploy its hiT 7300 metro DWDM platform, optimized for high-capacity transport across metro and long-haul networks. Nokia Siemens Networks also will provide some of its A-Series Carrier Ethernet switches.

“Our customers expect top-quality phone, broadband, and digital cable services,” said Jerry Knights, Insight’s vice president for engineering. “This network expansion will enhance our ability to bundle these services, offering our customers greater choice and convenience.”

In addition to providing support for services aimed at residential customers, the upgrades would also help put Insight into a position where it could provide advanced services for commercial customers.

Insight Communications is currently the ninth-largest cable operator in the United States (and 13th largest pay-TV provider) with approximately 775,700 customer relationships in the three contiguous states of Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio.

 “An increasingly competitive market landscape demands that cable operators emphasize and deliver a differentiated service,” said Ric Herald, head of multiple systems operators business, Nokia Siemens Networks. “Our transport solutions will allow Insight Communications to address network layer challenges cohesively and competently, providing them with a single point of contact to ensure smooth delivery and the required edge for enhanced triple-play.”
