• Sprint Names president of 4G network

Sprint Nextel has named Matt Carter as president of 4G to oversee the company’s continuing rollout of fourth-generation broadband wireless services.
The appointment will be effective Jan. 11, when Carter moves from his current role as vice president of Sprint Prepaid.
“Matt Carter has led Boost Mobile prepaid service to unprecedented growth in the last year, and he has the executive and marketing skills to maximize Sprint’s industry leadership in 4G,” said Sprint CEO Dan Hesse.
• Dish surpasses 14M subs

Dish Network recently passed the 14 million-customer milestone.
In Q3, Dish added 241,000 subscribers, compared with DirecTV’s 136,000 additions.
Dish Network offers more than 150 national HD channels, local HD channels in 152 markets and 1080p technology.
• Exfo adds tests for VoIP, IMS

Exfo Electro-Optical Engineering has introduced a test suite for VoIP and IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) networks.
The company’s MCM Gigabit Ethernet Interface Series test module can emulate up to 256,000 unique IMS/VoIP subscribers and 64,000 voice/video streams while performing quality analysis on every stream in real time, Exfo said. The GigE tester is designed for use in both the lab and in deployments.
The module can be housed in Exfo’s InterWatch R14 and QualityAssurer QA-604 platforms, and it’s backward-compatible with existing software options. With the MCM Gigabit Ethernet Interface Series, a single 2U QA-604 platform can support 512,000 emulated IMS/VoIP subscribers and 128,000 voice/video streams, while the 9U R14 platform can support 1.2 million emulated IMS/VoIP subscribers and 320,000 voice/video streams.
