Vecima Networks has appointed Richard Funnell to senior vice president of corporate development and has promoted Sumit Kumar to executive vice president.

In his new role, Funnell will assist Vecima Chairman and CEO Surinder Kumar and newly promoted executive vice president Sumit Kumar in forming and executing a strategic plan to realize revenue and profitability growth in the short and long term.

Funnell has more than 20 years of high-tech management experience. He has held a number of senior executive roles with a variety of technology companies, including Xyratex and Network Associates, now part of McAfee.

Sumit Kumar was previously vice president of corporate strategy. In his new role, he will work with the CEO, the senior management team and the board of directors to develop, manage and execute the overall strategy for the company.

Since joining Vecima in 1995, Sumit Kumar has worked in the R&D department on the architecture and development of edge QAM and WiMAX products, as well as within the business development and senior management groups.
