Aurora, Sigma integrate on DOCSIS provisioning
Aurora Networks has successfully integrated its Node PON platform with Sigma Systems’ Device Provisioning Manager for DOCSIS equipment provisioning and activation.
Aurora said the integration proved that cable operators could leverage the same OSS provisioning technology they employ for DOCSIS cable modem services for a network utilizing its Node PON solutions.
The two companies recently conducted a successful DOCSIS provisioning trial using Sigma’s Device Provisioning Manager and Aurora’s Node PON OLT and GEPON CPE devices, with the end result confirming that Aurora Networks’ Node PON solution is compatible with legacy DOCSIS provisioning technology.
Aurora said the testing also verified the capabilities of its Auros software platform, which enables the company’s PON solutions to integrate with a cable operator’s OSS, as well as its service provisioning and billing infrastructure. Auros allows the same infrastructure that supports an operator’s DOCSIS plant to support a GEPON network, enabling a Node PON OLT module to be provisioned, configured and monitored, much like a typical CMTS.
“A cable operator doesn’t need to reinvent the wheel every time when it comes to provisioning OSS. With Auros, the same infrastructure that supports the DOCSIS plant can also support a new GEPON network,” said John Dahlquist, vice president of marketing at Aurora. “The successful test of our Node PON system with Sigma Systems’ DOCSIS provisioning solution shows that this type of solution is real and is available today to cable operators.”
Aurora has also introduced GEPON and RFPON customer premises equipment devices for the cable market, adding to a CPE line that already includes products that work with RFoG deployments.
The RFPON CPE (CP8016U-55-42) and GEPON CPE (CP8000N-66-45) can be mounted indoors or outdoors, in both residential and commercial deployments. Both products are IEEE 802.3ah (EPON)-compatible.
The RFPON CPE provides all of the functionality of Aurora’s RFoG CPE, but with 1610 nm upstream wavelength for PON compatibility.
The GEPON CPE, meanwhile, with 1310 nm upstream wavelength, is to be the first in a family of products (designated the CP8000N family) and is designed to coexist with the company’s RFPON CPE.
Add in Aurora’s Node PON OLT module, and the company claims to be a one-stop shop for GEPON services.
Aurora Networks’ optical networking solutions are customized for operators as they extend fiber-supported service offerings into new residential, business and multi-dwelling unit markets. The products are compatible with RFoG and standard PON-based applications, allowing cable operators to roll out advanced FTTH networks without changing the integrity of their headend or back office technology.
