Delivering content in multiple resolutions from multiple sources to multiple screens poses a logistical problem that has no single solution. One element of the solution would be to develop a unified storage system for many of the types of content that must be delivered and, equally important, managed, which is what Concurrent has just created with its new Central Data Warehouse (CDW).
Concurrent describes the CDW as “a cross-services data storage and correlation solution designed to offer a 360-degree view of linear, video-on-demand and interactive media consumption across television, mobile and online screens.”
One of the keys for success in such a system is not only storing the content, but managing it. Service providers can use the CDW to not only consolidate the collection and storage of content, Concurrent said, but also to manage the correlation of census-level media data from services such as linear broadcast viewing, VOD and online video consumption.
A key advantage of a unified CDW system is that that it represents a single point of collection for data on subscriber consumption, content consumption, operational reporting and advertising campaign performance.
“With CDW, operators can leverage their real-time, census-level data to deliver accurate reporting to their valued stakeholders, who in turn can make informed decisions regarding content consumption and advertising effectiveness across multiple services and screens,” said Paul Haddad, Concurrent vice president and general manager for Media Data and Advertising Solutions (MDAS).
CDW will be commercially available in September for VOD services and will support and integrate linear and interactive data in Q4, Concurrent said. Mobile and online data support will be available in the first half of 2010.
