Bresnan Communications, the nation’s 13th-largest cable operator, has deployed Clearleap’s Web-based platform across all of its systems.

Bresnan is using Clearleap’s platform to manage its VOD section, which is called The Spot. The Spot comprises localized channels featuring businesses in categories such as jobs, dining and events. The Clearleap platform will help Bresnan ingest, distribute, manage and monetize content of all types by using its clear|flow and clear|profit modules.

“Currently the platform is being used for The Spot category for VOD local content only,” said Pragash Pillai, Bresnan’s vice president of engineering and technology. “This is an enhancement to the existing platform we already have in place.”

In addition to VOD, Bresnan is planning to use the Web-based platform to ingest local content and program its local linear channels with local and regional programming of interest to the MSO’s subscribers. By using Clearleap for this function, Clearleap said Bresnan will be one of the first cable operators in the nation to use Internet technologies for the ingest and management of linear TV programming.

According to Clearleap, the deal will increase Bresnan’s ability to cater to the special interests of its subscribers and advertisers in each system and reduce the time and costs of getting targeted content to the consumer. Using clear|profit, Bresnan will be able to target local advertising on both VOD and linear platforms.

“Integrating an IP-based infrastructure gives us the ability to be targeted, timely and flexible in what we offer our subscribers for each system while allowing quick insertion for our local advertisers,” said Julie Harbour, director of interactive advertising for Bresnan.

Bresnan, a broadband telecommunications company founded by Bill Bresnan in 1984, serves more than 320,000 customers throughout Colorado, Montana, Wyoming and Utah. Comcast is among the companies that have a stake in Bresnan.
