AT&T has added some slick new features for its U-verse video service, including the ability to watch up to four channels at the same time.
AT&T’s “Multiview” mosaic feature also groups channels by genres such as sports, news and kids programming. Instead of browsing through the program guide or surfing one channel at a time, subscribers can tune to a single channel to see Sports Multiview (channel 601), News Multiview (channel 201) and Kids Multiview (channel 301) programming.
By using the down or up arrows on remote controls customers can scroll through the picture-in-picture screens to see additional channels in that genre that are available in their U-verse TV packages.
Also, if there’s a program a customers want to record while browsing, they can select the record button to schedule recordings without exiting the Multiview app. Football fans that subscribe to the ESPN GamePlan package can also view an ESPN GamePlan Multiview application on channel 4400 at no extra charge.
AT&T also added “TV Awards and News Shows,” which is an application that helps subscribers keep track of award shows and season premier, and a new Media Share feature that lets viewers stream personal photos and music from their PCs to their TVs. AT&T said the new features are free of charge and available to all U-verse subscribers.
"The apps and features available with U-verse TV give you new ways to watch and interact with the shows you love," said Jeff Weber, vice president of video services for AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets. "We offer numerous apps on U-verse TV today, standard with every package, and we're adding more all the time. It's another reason why customers choose and rave about U-verse TV."
(Weber outlined AT&T’s focus on new applications earlier in the year during an interview with CED.)
