ActiveVideo Networks, Neotion and eventIS will be demonstrating at IBC how cloud-based offerings can increase the availability of interactive TV services on Common Interface Plus-enabled TVs.
The platform, which taps into the interactive capabilities of the CI+ ecosystem, was developed in conjunction with Ziggo. Ziggo is the largest cable system operator in the Netherlands and a big proponent of CI+.
The combined platform uses ActiveVideo’s network-based content approach to interface with eventIS’ VOD back office capabilities to manage and deliver interactive programming directly to the television via Neotion’s hybrid IP-capable CI+ conditional access modules.
“Our adoption of CI Plus was based initially on its ability to securely deliver content from the network to the next generation of integrated digital televisions,” said Dave Renkema, manager of new product development for Ziggo. “Through the efforts of innovative companies like ActiveVideo Networks, Neotion and eventIS, we’ve seen how the two-way capabilities of the standard and those same high levels of content protection can help us to securely deliver VOD, PVR functionality, Web video and other interactive content.”
The IBC demonstration will show how a full range of content and services – including VOD navigation, Web-based video, interactive advertising and other services – can be driven by server-based technologies.
Meanwhile, Verivue and eventIS are teaming up on the development of a complete solution for on-demand digital video services. By combining eventIS’ back office software with Verivue’s Media Distribution Switch (MDX 9000) systems, the two companies can offer a single solution that supports cable and telco operators’ advanced digital television services.
Verivue’s MDX 9000 series, according to the company, is the first network-centric platform with integrated solid-state storage built for the high-volume delivery of video to TVs, PCs and mobile devices. eventIS’ converged Service Delivery Platform (cSDP) manages and integrates broadcast and VOD metadata, controls on-demand network allocation and manages VOD subscriber information for three-screen delivery.
