Harmonic recently announced that Technology Marketing Corp. (TMC) named its Direct-2-Edge (D2E) cable IPTV offering and Rhozet Carbon Coder universal transcoding software as recipients of the 2009 IPTV Excellence Award, which is presented by Internet Telephony magazine.

"Harmonic's Rhozet Carbon Coder and Direct-2-Edge have each made a significant impact in the IPTV marketplace. Providing exceptional IPTV solutions for telco, cable and Internet video service providers has earned Harmonic acknowledgment from the editors of Internet Telephony," said Erik Linask, group editorial director at TMC. "They have shown advancements in their IPTV solutions while improving their clients' business."

Harmonic's D2E cable IPTV solution enables cable operators to leverage their existing DOCSIS and digital video investments to deliver video over IP to multiple screens, including TVs and the PC. Harmonic said its D2E has been deployed by multiple operators including SK Broadband in Korea.

Rhozet Carbon Coder is a universal media transcoding platform that is used by media companies including Ascent Media Group, British Sky Broadcasting (BskyB), Lifetime Networks, MTV, Yahoo and YouTube to facilitate the creation of multi-format video for Internet, mobile and broadcast applications.

The Rhozet Carbon Coder was recently selected by Germany-based S4M-Solutions for Media GmbH, which is a subsidiary of arvato systems and RTL Television. Rhozet will be used in the company’s video production management system.
