DirecTV talks with Comcast about TV Everywhere
Mon, 08/10/2009 - 8:35am
Strange bedfellows, indeed. DirecTV is reported to be talking to Comcast about joining TV Everywhere, which is cable’s approach to make content from cable networks available online only to cable video subscribers.
It had previously been reported that DirecTV was considering such a plan, but the report from Advertising Age is the first time the company has been said to be allying directly with cable on the service. Ad Age quoted unnamed executives with knowledge of the talks.
DirecTV would call the service “On Demand Online” – the same as Comcast. Time Warner Cable, which is also trialing the service, is calling it “TV Everywhere.”
DirecTV is reported to want to use its own technology to authenticate its customers on the Web.
