GPS navigation manufacturer SageQuest has hooked up its fleet tracking and management platform with Garmin devices that are inside commercial vehicles to help dispatchers deliver information to service technicians.
The integration between the two companies allows dispatchers to build and optimize a route in SageQuest’s Mobile Control platform for drivers in the field, then immediately push the route to a driver’s Garmin device.
Dispatchers can also use Mobile Control to send messages to drivers via their Garmin device, communicating important schedule updates or posing a question. Drivers can respond using canned text responses or creating a free-form response on the Garmin device.
SageQuest has already put active units in the field with the Garmin integration in place. One example is Bend Broadband, a cable, broadband and telephone services provider in Bend, Ore.
“Our technicians quickly adapted to the Garmin unit. They no longer need to refer to paper maps or call in to dispatch for directions,” said Brett Anderson, Bend’s vice president of plant operations.
