ResiLink rides into Massachusetts

RCN is launching its bundled ResiLink services in Wakefield, Mass., offering subscribers a choice for their phone, cable, and high-speed Internet services. ResiLink offers various combinations of RCN phone, cable and high-speed Internet services for a flat rate. These services are delivered over RCN's Megaband Network.

New networking router available

Linksys, a broadband, wireless and networking hardware provider, says its HomeLink Phoneline 10M Cable/DSL Router is now available. According to the company, this is the first-of-its-kind solution and allows Ethernet-based computers and HomePNA certified phone-based computers and devices to network with each other as if on the same network.

NEC and Thomson combining plasma display businesses

NEC Corporation and Thomson Multimedia intend to combine each company's plasma display technologies. The plasma displays consist of display panes, modules and monitors. The companies are pinning their plans of an equal worldwide research and development, sales and manufacturing joint venture on a memo of understanding.

Concurrent pairs with Federal Hill Communications

Looking for content for its international customers, Concurrent Computer has formed a strategic partnership with Federal Hill Communications, a digital content provider for worldwide VOD delivery. Federal Hill has agreed to negotiate and license Hollywood movies and ancillary entertainment content on behalf of Concurrent's clients.

Lining up for digital TV in New Mexico

Those famous desert sunsets apparently aren't enough entertainment in New Mexico anymore. People are lining up to get their digital television since WSNet, a provider of direct-to-home digital video programming, has paired with Socorro Satellite Systems. "We have had an overwhelming response to WSNet's digital service," Marilyn Madrid, head of cable services for Socorro, said in a statement.

Gotuit and Motorola get to it

Gotuit Media Corp., a provider of hardware and software systems that allow users to customize radio and TV content, has paired with Motorola's Broadband Communications Sector. The two companies have agreed to support the integration of Gotuit Media's personalized video product, Gotuit TV, into Motorola's DCT-5000 interactive digital set-top terminal.

Aerocast wraps up trial

Aerocast, a broadband streaming media company backed by Motorola and Liberty Media, has completed its first consumer trial. The trial enabled its participants to access entertainment-quality streaming media on demand from their homes for the first time. For the trial, Aerocast streamed content from several partners including Starz Encore, Oasis TV and interactive TV provider ACTV.

Sprint deploys Virtual Truck Installer

BroadJump says Sprint Broadband Direct, the fixed wireless Internet service, has begun deploying BroadJump's Virtual Truck Installer in 12 cities nationwide. Sprint first began deployment of Virtual Truck Installer less than one year ago to accelerate the rollout of Sprint FastConnect DSL. Sprint has already begun automating the installation process of its fixed wireless broadband service.

Convergent buys billing technology

Hughes Electronics ' Chairman Michael Smith is offering a stake and spin in the satellite company. WSJ.com reports Smith is opposed to News Corp. 's bid to acquire control of Hughes, so Smith has taken the bold move of approaching potential investors with the idea of taking a large stake in the company and then spinning it off.

RapidAccess means channel management

Insight Communications is installing Vela 's RapidAccess video server to better manage programming for three of its cable channels. Coax Corp. has developed a new technology that boosts streaming media suppliers' capability to deliver IP content to TV. Coax unveiled its integrated IP-MPEG media bridge as part of its development of an ultra-dense, programmable digital broadband router. Comcast gives Virginia subs a Wink

Number-three MSO Comcast is launching its first Wink Interactive TV systems in Virginia. Comcast has more than 35,000 digital cable customers in the Chesterfield and Prince William markets. Those subscribers will be the first to receive Wink Enhanced Broadcasting as a standard feature on the Scientific-AtlantaExplorer set-top box.
